Brave New World
In the book, the government controls people through pleasure. They are conditioned from birth to conform to the new norms of extreme sexual promiscuity, the hatred of solitude, and the use of the wonder-drug Soma. As a result, people never spend time alone, think very little (instead, they repeat sayings told to them while they slept), and live shallow lives of pleasure until they die at the predetermined age of ~60. Would you prefer to live in this ignorant bliss, or in sentience with its burdens?

This is a great question, Henry! If this was posted in a timely manner, I have no doubt you would have had many insightful responses to this. Regardless, what do you think? (Since you had to post a response, regardless of whether or not people commented.)
