The authors description of the grayness of the wasteland deepens the theme of lonliness in isolation because it shows depressing images for the reader to imagine. And every scenario you see you can visualize the tone of the image, and in the Road you can address that a wasteland is considered a theme of isolation because about everyone in the Road is dead because of a major phenomenon.The author used lots of descriptions that related to darkness and death. He described the grass as dead and the people as dead too. The author wanted to expolit the theme of lonliness by adding in depressing words and descriptions of the world the characters lived in, like for example he described decaying bodies on the street as rotten and nasty. To exaggerate the depressing and dark feature made the theme of lonliness a place where the characters could not escape from their own reality. When the theme of lonliness deepened it gave the reader a perspective of living in that world. (No grade)

By describing the world as grey, McCarthy makes the place seem very drab, dull and depressing. Grey by definition is an unemotional color. It is detached, neutral, impartial and indecisive according to Color Psychology.com. The man and boy seem very alone because all around them is just a dull grey horizon with no emotion or sense of place to go along with it.
I agree with both of the comments made. I believe that the author used the color gray both in order to make the world simple and more descriptive. Having the world be gray and desolate gives a sense of isolation in the world as it creates a sense of depression. The amount of imagery used in the book in order to describe to gray wasteland was a lot. "Out there was the gray beach with the slow combers rolling dull and leaden and the distant sound of it."(McCarthy). This quote shows the use of the color gray to paint an image in the reader's minds such as mine. Along with Emily's response I would also like to agree with your researched fact of the color psychology statement. I feel whenever I see that color it gives me a feeling of a dull color.
The author uses the color grey to symbolize how plain and barren the landscape is to show that everything has been wiped out after the apocalypse. It makes the story more sad because living in Washington, we picture the landscape with a lot of green. But when we picture a lot of grey, the landscape seems very depressing and inhabitable. This is why the loneliness theme you mentioned comes out. Because it doesnt seem like anyone would ever want to live in a grey, desolate landscape. For example, in the text it says "I'm sorry it's not blue, he said." (215). This is when they finally got to the ocean, and the boy was disapointed that even the water was grey. So everywhere, the landscape is depressing. This is why even though they are together, both the characters feel lonely. Which explains why the boy wanted to bring the other boy with them.
