How does the word incriminate describe the setting of the
story.
To answer my own question, the definition of incriminate is make someone appear guilty of a crime or wrongdoing. I think the gives an imagery of the scene, where the man is describing the lifestyle that they are living now. Even though they are living poorly they are all waiting for the war to start but to end quickly. So that when it ends all the poor people perhaps may be of some sort of use in the world. But if the society doesn’t listen to them that without books they are nothing then they would just have to pass the books down to their children by word of mouth. But in the text incriminate is used to describe the people who have decided to outcast themselves from the rest of society because they had come to realization that life without book is pointless because then they would lose all the knowledge that is written in the books and would be sitting at home all day watching TV and forgetting the past, like it never existed.
