ReplyDeleteThe use of different technology such as the Bokanovsky Process, the surgical removal of ovaries, and Hypnopaedic conditioning has helped the utopian society. These processes of genetic modification aren’t ethical or morally acceptable, but they do in fact help society. The Bokanovsky Process is what Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon undergo, which is a process that creates ninety-six identical human beings (per egg). “One egg, one embryo, one adult- normality. But a bokanovskified egg will bud, will divide. From eight to ninety-six buds; and every bud will grow into a perfectly formed full size adult. Making ninety-six human beings grow where only one grew before” (Huxley 6). This process helps society because these humans are predestined to work identical jobs, at identical machines. The ovaries that are surgically removed are used as test-tubes, where they essentially mix sperm and an ovary in a dish and fertilize them. This process is used for breeding. Hypnopaedic conditioning is utilized for moral training. “These humans get zapped 123 times and doing so programs them to hate what they are looking at (Books and Flowers). So to conclude, the different uses of technology in society in the novel Brave New World are beneficial to controlling the population, and for surviving.

As you mentioned above, the processes helps society because humans are predestined to work the same job at the same machines. "Standard men and women; in uniform batches. The whole of a small factory staffed with the products of a single bokanovskified egg" (Huxley 7). There was an incredible amount of people working in the factories who were all working on the product of just a single bokanovskified egg. Hypnopaedic conditioning was a process where everything was thought inside their sleep. This helped society due to the fact that anything could be learned upon the little children. They would repeat and practice the things they were hypnotized in their sleep. In conclusion, the different uses of technology to helping society are indeed beneficial and are critical to controlling the population.
