Fahrenheit 451-Literary Device Question
Through the use of this Metaphor:"...Your pulse sounds like the day after war…" (Bradbury 107). Do you think that with the job Guy Montag has, his personality and his actions are being shown throughout the book as one to always have a negative perspective, and someone who is always thinking about what will happen next in a negative way?
Answering my own question, I feel that Guy Montag at the beginning of the book his personality was negative because of his lifestyle and the people that he came in contact with every single day. His temper and his actions towards others did change as he met new people and he escaped from his job and his town. I feel that the main reason he always seemed to have a negative outlook was because of his job and the pressure that came with it. I also feel that his relationship with his wife Mildred affected him emotionally. For example when Montag came back to work after being “sick”, his first job was to burn his own house down for the books he had stolen from previous houses. Mildred is the one who sent the request in and she is the one who just left him on the spot. In the book from pages 110-117 it tells the story of the pain Montag went through as he watched his house begin to be engulfed in flames. In conclusion I feel that in relation to today’s world, people can have an effect on you and can cause painful relationships by your own and their actions.
